Overseas couples choosing Perth or Western Australia as their wedding destination
If you are choosing Perth or anywhere in Western Australia to get married, I can help you to arrange this; by email and Skype. Before you marry in Australia, you need to sign a Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) form. I can post you a form, or you can download it from Births Deaths and Marriages www.bdm.dotag.wa.gov.au.
You can complete the NOIM while in your home country, and have it witnessed by;
An Australian Diplomatic Officer, an Australian Consular Officer, a Notary Public, an employee of the Commonwealth authorised para 3 (c) of the Consular Fees Act 1955, or an employee of the Australian Trade Commission authorised under para 3 (d) of the Consular Fees Act 1955.
You can scan and email this to me, but please bring the original with you.
This form cannot be filled in more than 18 months before the wedding, or less than one month before, (the date starts from when I receive a copy.)
If one party lives in Australia and the other overseas. I can accept the NOIM from one of the parties. However, I do need to write to the person overseas and send them the brochure “Happily Ever… Before and After”. Now days with translation being done online, it is quite easy to communicate with people who live overseas.
If you both are from overseas I will need to see either your original birth certificates or your passports. If they are not in English, they will need to be translated. The only authorised translators in Australia can be found at National Accreditation Authority for Translators. Tel: 1300 557 470, email info@naati.com.au or visit their website www.naati.com.au
Weddings can be conducted with interpreters, however, they must sign a Statutory Declaration and Certificate by Interpreter stating that they accurately performed the service. This form is sent to Birth, Deaths and Marriages along with your other legal documents.
I have worked with interpreters many times. It does take longer to perform the Ceremony, however it does not alter the romantic mood of the ceremony.
