Some reasons why people choose to have a Reaffirmation of their Wedding Vows:

 

1. Milestones  25, 30, 40, 50, 60 and more years.

2. Couples who have been married overseas, and want a ceremony in Western Australia, with their family and friends.

3. Empty-nester’s who are wanting to celebrate the successful stage of life raising children, and are looking forward to a different stage, one full of different kinds of adventures; travelling, grandchildren, golf, hobbies. 

4. Couples who have been through a turbulent time in their relationship,  have decided it is worth continuing their marriage, and want to affirm this commitment in front of their family and friends.

5. Sometimes, couples children decide to give their parents a Reaffirmation Ceremony as a gift. Usually this is often due to the couple having a very low key, original wedding, and their children wanting to give something back to their parents, as a way of saying thank you for being such great parents!

 

Is a Reaffirmation of Vows a Legal Ceremony?

The short answer is, no.  If you are already married, even if it is to each other, you cannot remarry.

Do I need a Marriage Celebrant to facilitate my Ceremony?

Once again, the short answer is no, however as an Authorised Civil Marriage Celebrant, based in Perth, (but happy to travel anywhere in this beautiful State of ours), I do have experience in creating and conducting ceremonies.  I also have resources on Reaffirmation Vow Ceremonies that I can give to you.

How is the Ceremony structured?

This is the generally accepted way, but you can change this:

  • Processional (sometimes includes giving away)
  • Welcome / Introduction
  • The couple’s or families special story
  • Readings
  • The Asking
  • Exchanging Vows
  • Ring Ceremony
  • Rituals and Blessings
  • Signing the Certificate
  • Presenting the Certificate
  • Conclusion (Recessional)
