Commitment Ceremonies

“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams”

Eleanor Roosevelt

A commitment ceremony is a public declaration of your love for each other. It is a promise or vow to be faithful, loyal, supportive and strong for each other. The day of your ceremony is one of the most personal and special days of your life. Every aspect of your ceremony from the readings, vows, music and symbolism, should be a reflection of you both, and the connection that you share. To make this day truly your own, rejoice in everything that makes your union unique.

As your celebrant I will take the time to understand your beliefs, your values, and what makes your bond unique. I will collaborate with you to create a ceremony that you will cherish for years to come.

Your ceremony can be formal, traditional, casual and/or fun. You can celebrate your heritage, by researching your respective ethnic or cultural backgrounds, for wedding rituals or traditions that may have been handed down for centuries. You may have wonderful poetry, music or sayings from your cultures that you can include as they are, or modify to suit your unique circumstances. You could include pagan rights, hand-fasting, sand pouring or the wine ceremony; all of which are visual ways of declaring that your lives are now intertwined, and can no more be separated than the wine or sand can be.
I will:

  • Meet with you at a no-obligation interview to discuss your vision of the ceremony
  • Listen to learn your personal story
  • Consult with you until the ceremony is just right
  • Rehearse with you at your venue
  • Provide you with a copy of your ceremony
  • Provide you with a Certificate

The International Commitment Ceremonies Registry (ICCR) is an official organisation that collects and stores searchable records of   of Commitment Ceremonies that have been performed all over the world.   It also has  a Certificate that you can order on line. http://www.unionoflove.com/

A good way to write your vows is to start to think about;

  1. Where did first meet?
  2. What impressed you most about your partner at that first meeting?
  3. How long have you known each other?
  4. How long after meeting your partner did you realise that you were in love, and how did you know?
  5. What is your greatest source of inspiration?
  6. What one word best sums up your partner?
  7. What do you love most about your partner?
  8. What do you think your partner loves most about you?
  9. What is your favourite love song? What makes it meaningful?
  10. Do you both have a favourite love song? What makes that meaningful?
  11. How does it feel to be in love with our partner?
